Rizhao Haitong Silk Co. Ltd, Rizhao, China (中文版 Chinese Version)

The silk cocoon is created by the silkworm, which feeds off mulberry tree leaves in subtropical climates. At the factory the bad silk cocoons are separated from the good.

The Chinese were the first to develop cultivated silk
fabric 5000 years ago.
The process was kept secret
for millennia.

The cocoons are boiled to loosen the thread, or filament. The silkworms are killed in the process.

The silk filament is then reeled onto spools. Several filaments are spun together to make yarn.
